"GO Panthers GO"

Hello to all Panthers. On this Sunday at the Skydome our lone senior varsity team (9-1) will be taking on the Etobicoke Eagles (8-2) for the Wettgees Conference finals at 4 pm. This game will go to the wire, with the Eagles winning against conference champs TT, they are on a high. Their spread offense is similar to the Panthers, and their D stepped up in their win against TT. Panthers on the other hand will be head to head on offense showing what they are made of with Alex and co. going full out, our defense will need to put the screws to shutdown EE's agile QB and limit their dimensions. They have good special teams and a good kicker, but we have Ryan and co., who have all season been "GREATER". Let show the support with the cheers in the stands, LOUD and clear, GO PANTHERS GO!

LET's go to the ship !!!

Go Panthers Go !

Mosquito Madness Tournament

The Cumberland Panthers hosted the Mosquito Madness tournament last Saturday august 7. The opening ceremony started under blue skies throughout the day with all the teams( over 700 players and coaches) lead and presented on the field by a piper. Sabrina Brigden sang the national anthem.

Our city councilor, Mr. Rob Jellett, took part in the opening ceremonies by giving a little life history of his background into the sport that were excellent memories, which he will always cherish. He also made an announcement that the city of Ottawa will be contributing $15,000 toward a field scoreboard. The Panthers have been working with fundraisings event for the last two years towards this project, as it is becoming a requirement for their participation as a member in the OVFL, QJFL and NCAFA. We would like to thank councilor Jellett for his hard work and support in helping acquire funds for Panthers football club and for community sports in Cumberland and Orleans.

The Mosquito Madness tournament is a place where NCAFA (National Capital Amateur Football Association) can showcase this level (11-12 yrs) of football to the community. Players at this level may have a few years of experience but for many others, it is their first experience at tackle football in a controlled game situation. The focus of this event was meant to allow each players from all clubs the opportunity to develop and exhibit good sportsmanship.

The Parents and coaches cheered loud for all the players and kept the day positive, fun and without incidents. The referee association participated in great numbers (30 officials) under the great organization of referee Paul Graham. The tournament is taking as a start for the fall season in initiating new referees to the game under the guidance of the experience men and women in stripes. The time is taken to explain to players the rules when received. They volunteer their time and ref over 60 games during the event. We thank the referees for making this a positive, instructive and fun day for the players. “Mosquito Madness is a great success because of the planning and thought put behind it” says Steve Dean, President of NCAFA, who was in attendance during the whole event walking around and watching some of the 5 games simultaneously going on every hour. He talked to parents and remarked on this being great start to the season for this level.

I would like to thank all the volunteers of the day – mosquito parents, Peewee/Bantam players and parents, coaches, referees, Panthers executive, Special Thanks to Lisa and Marc Franche – volunteer coordinators, Scott Cook – tournament planner, and Alain Lagace – game schedule organizer.

Michel Charron – President of the Cumberland Panthers Football Club

“In memory of a Panther alumni "

Life passes us by so quickly; we sometimes forget the small things that give meaning to our passions, our thoughts, our friendships, and our love for others until one day, we find they are no longer among us. One of these gentlemen, a Panther alumni, Chris Sabean, we bid you farewell, as you will be missed by all who had the opportunity to see you grow into a fine young man, and who was just starting his road on life as a responsible young adult working at his father’s business. All Sabean boys played football, starting with older brother Justin who played till 17, and with mom, Terry helping as the club treasurer, and dad, Randy doing the sticks during games. Chris was a great player and a great youngster that learned his lesson’s well from the coaches, but mostly from mom and dad, in giving back to others what he had been given, a bit of his time in helping to teach other younger players in playing flag football. He would help and learn as a young coach the responsibility and satisfaction needed to do it. The Sabeans were always great supporters of the Panther program for over 10 years by sponsoring banquet trophies or volunteering their time. We will always remember Chris in our thoughts and memories. We extend our warmest thoughts and condolences for their lost loved ones to the Sabean family, the Rivington family, and the Marko family.
